Galen Leather:
Nanami Paper:
Hello, everyone, I really hope you’re doing well so today, unfortunately, I have some sad news for you: Tomoe River paper is being discontinued and right now it looks like it might actually be for good. The tomato paper company in Japan has announced that it has discontinued. The production of the 52, as well as the 68 gsm Tomoe River paper, and it says due to discontinuation of the base paper product, which means there have been increases in wood pulp over the last recent months and years. So they have been continuously being been in. The red with producing the paper – and there were also some changes already last year when they switched their production of the paper to a different machine which led to a slightly different Tomoe River paper that they were producing and now they said to do not enough Demand they discontinued the production.
So I think it’s really sad. I absolutely love Tomoe River paper and I have three notebooks here that use them a river paper. Some of you might know them. It’s the here’s, my Nanami paper, the cafe note it’s a six version of the Tomoe River paper journal. This uses 52 g sem timber river paper, this one I’m actually using at the moment.
It’S the Galen leather. I think it’s the b6 leather journal and what I love about Tomoe River paper is how thin it is and how great it performs, with fountain pens and all kinds of other ink, and all of you who love tomato paper know that that it is incredible in Terms of the sheen and the variation it displays with the ink and that it doesn’t bleed through, despite being super, super thin. As I said, this one’s only 52 tree stamps, it’s really thin paper and I don’t use fountain pens a ton every once in a while. I do, but I love this also for using roller balls and really you can use any type of pen with it and just be fine and never worry about feathering or bleed through, and there is some ghosting, but it’s not too crazy. So I’ll be sad to see it gone and yeah it used to be available in 52 gsm, and then this company GLP creations uses the 68 gsm Tomoe River paper, which is slightly thicker.
But it is said it’s some. It has a little less ghosting because it is thicker and I did reviews on all of these journals. So if you want to check those out, please feel free to look on my channel, and i made this video for you. So you can go and stock up on all your favorite Tomoe River journals if they’re still available – and my guess is that smaller companies and journal makers will run out of stock quite sooner and faster than larger companies. For example, Hobonichi has announced that, as of now, they still have enough stock of the paper to keep making the Hobonichi tachos, but eventually that might also change, so, if you are Hobonichi fan, I would also encourage you to stock up and yeah.
As i said, this video is for you to give you a heads up. You might have already heard the rumors, so I just wanted to confirm this today and I will link notebooks in the description below that are still available at the time of making this video. So if I were you and you love Tomoe River paper, I would move fast and stock up before it’s gone or the prices on the journals go up and you have to pay hundreds of dollars, eBay or whatnot. So if you have any questions, feel free to leave me a comment, if you know any alternatives to Tomoe River paper that are like really thin paper that is fountain pen friendly.
Please leave me a comment. I’m curious to hear from you. Journal makers have also announced that they’re right now looking for alternatives for Tomoe River, so I’m also curious to see what other new options will come out. But overall, I’m pretty sad because I love thin paper. I love the crinkle factor that you get with a really thin paper like just when you turn the page.
You don’t get it with thick paper to me thick paper over 100 gsm just feels stiff, and it doesn’t have enough give for me. So I’m a fan of thin paper, so i’m pretty bummed out yeah. So thanks for watching this video, if you despite the sad news, enjoyed the video and liked it, please give it a thumbs up.
