Hello everyone! I hope you’re doing well. Today I’m doing a quick review of this little pocket notebook. It is a Daler Rowney Sketchbook (I hope I’m pronouncing this right). Let’s check it out!
Overview
The dimensions of this notebook are 3.5 inches by 5.5 inches. It is a stitched notebook, as you can see right here. It has rounded edges, a soft cover, and is black. The texture feels pretty smooth with a slight texture to it, but overall, the cover feels really nice. It is a stock cover, like a cardboard stock cover, with a textured coating on top of it. It feels like really nice quality. You can see the name embossed on the back.
Features
The notebook is blank with cream-colored pages. I believe it has 48 pages or 24 sheets. Here is the stitching in the middle. I really like the color of the paper; I prefer cream-colored paper. Even though it is considered a sketchbook with 100 GSM paper weight, it is not too textured. Often, sketchbooks can have very textured paper, but this one is fairly smooth. You can definitely use it as a regular journal if you want.
Writing Sample
Here is my writing sample. I used a pencil, ballpoint pen, a couple of rollerballs, gel pens, and a Pilot Metropolitan fountain pen with Diamine Marine ink and a medium nib. I think it is fountain pen-friendly. Let’s check the back:
There is some ghosting, and while it shows signs of potential bleed-through, it doesn’t fully bleed through. So, you can use a fountain pen with this notebook. It may not be exceptionally fountain pen-friendly, but it works. The thicker Uni Vision ink also showed some ghosting but didn’t bleed through fully. Overall, it has pretty decent paper quality, especially for the price.
Price and Availability
I think the price on this notebook is amazing. I found it at Walmart for just over $2, and it looks really nice for that price.
Conclusion
I’m excited to try this out. I’ve been using a lot of pocket notebooks lately, so I’m going to give this one a go as well
