Hello everyone, today i’m doing a review of these spiral bound notebooks made by the company emerging green, so emerging green is a small family-run business and they are committed to creating products that are sustainably sourced and made with a low carbon footprint. So these notebooks actually made from recycled paper. So if you’re interested in getting something eco-friendly and do something good for the environment, then these notebooks might be an option for you.
So they are a5 and they come in a pack of three. Let’S check out the dimensions since they’re a5 they’re 5.8 inches by 8.3, inches or 14.8 by 21 centimeters, and i also forgot to tell you if you are interested in getting these, I have a coupon code that gets you 10 off. So here’s the back of the journal. It has a cardboard cover, that’s brown and in the front as well, and these are lined notebooks, as you can see here, and it’s like a double spiral, as you can tell, and then there is a margin around the edges here with the lines and the lines Actually quite dark and the paper is i’d, say off-white and it’s 80 gsm paper.
So it’s a nice thickness to the paper. I mean it’s not too thick, but it’s a nice paper weight and then there’s double line here at the top and there’s also some small markings here and at the bottom.
So if you want to turn this into graph paper or draw with this, you have some markings right there and this eight millimeter ruling in, every notebook, so they’re all lined notebooks. There are 240 pages, so all together, you get 720 pages then, when you buy the pack of three.
Let’s check out the writing sample, i wrote it here on the back. Here we have a pencil, a ballpoint pen, a hybrid pen, and then we have here two gel pens and then the roll ball pen. And then here we have the pilot metropolitan fountain pen with medium nib and diamond marine ink. And you can see, there’s a little bit of feathering with the fountain pen and that’s usually an issue with recycled paper is that it is more absorbent, so there will be more feathering and there will also be bleed through with fountain paper.
This notebook does. Okay, actually for being recycled paper, see with most pens. You have hardly any ghosting just a little bit with the roller ball and then the fountain pen is just about to bleed through here. So it’s not the most found pen friendly paper, but i don’t think i’ve ever had a notebook with recycled paper that is really found.
Pen friendly.I think the paper would have to be really thick as if this paper doesn’t get coated or anything like other papers from different companies that are more fountain friendly, so you will have that problem. But if you don’t use fountain pens or you only use one side of the notebook, then it also wouldn’t be an issue to use a fountain pen here, if you don’t mind the feathering, but the feathering is actually it’s not too bad. I mean it depends, as you can see here, all right.
All in all, i think it’s a nice quality notebook since it is spider-bond. Of course it lies flat and you can bend it over and the company is also eager to improve their products and they ask for feedback.
So what i would say is the only thing i’d like different is that the notebooks don’t come individually wrapped, since it is an eco-friendly product, it should all just be in one plastic pouch or it’s something that is biodegradable type of plastic, and i personally would Like the lines to be slightly lighter, but that is a personal preference.
But overall it’s definitely a solid product and if you said, if you need spiral bound notebooks in that size – and you want to do something great for the environment, then i definitely recommend those.
